Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
An important official said the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
